What is Eczema?

Eczema is a condition that causes the skin to become itchy, red, dry and cracked. It is a long-term condition in most people, though can improve over time. It can affect any part of the body, but the most common areas to be affected are:

  • Backs or fronts of the knees

  • Outside or inside of the elbows

  • Around the neck

  • Hands

  • Cheeks

  • Scalp

Who does it affect?

It can affect anyone, though is common in children and often runs in families. About one in five children in the UK has eczema, though can often clear completely as they get older. However, it can also continue into adulthood and develop for the first time in adults.

What causes it?

The exact cause of this condition is unknown, but is most likely due to a range of factors. Those who are more susceptible to allergies are more likely to suffer from it. The symptoms of eczema often have certain triggers, such as soaps, detergents, stress and even the weather.

How can it be treated?

Although there is no cure for this condition, skin treatments can help relieve the symptoms and many can improve over time.

At Appearances Aesthetics, we can help treat and reduce skin conditions. Check out the products we offer by visiting our shop.
